SCOT BORDER ROAD
A loop through the heart of the Scottish Borders Our
route starts in Peebles and we follow the River Tweed to near its source before
heading East to Kirk Yetholm on the English border. We take the natural lines
of the valleys following some of the ancient routes used by the Romans and subsequently
by the Border Reivers. The whole area is steeped in Scottish history and immortalised
in our literature; Rober Burns, James Hogg, Sir Walter Scott, and many others.
Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle, creator of Sherlock Holmes, no doubt cycled sections of our
route whilst a member of the Hawick Cycle Club Always
following the quiet country roads, we visit the main border towns each with its
unique attractions and spell in history. We take the time to visit famous castles,
museums, gardens, and art galleries enroute. St.
Cuthbert started his journey to Lindesfarne from the
heart of the Borders, and we have the opportunity to experience parts of his journey. |
