MOUNTAIN BIKE TOURThis
mountain bike tour covers one of the most beautiful parts of Mongolia, the mountains
of Hovsgol province near the northern border with Siberia. Beginning
with a one and a half hour internal flight from Ulaanbaatar, the biking then starts
from the town of Moron. The
route passes over the forested Khoridol Saridag mountains (altitude approximately
3000 metres) and down to the magnificent Hovsgol Lake. Our route follows the shore
of this inland sea southwards to the tiny port of Khatgal, then back to Moron.
The
scenery is varied and remarkable with deep canyons, waterfalls, and a background
of snow-covered peaks. Apart
from the majority Khalkh Mongols there are also some families of the Darkhad ethnic
group living in this area, and further north the Tsaatan "reindeer"
people. 
OUTLINE ITINERARY Day
1 Depart London Heathrow. Overnight on plane.
Day 2 Arrive Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to hotel. Afternoon at leisure. Overnight
hotel. Day 3
Transfer to airport for flight to Moron. Arrive Moron and meet support crew, assemble
bikes. Ride towards Arbulag making detour to see ancient "deerstones".
Overnight camping. Day
4 Continue riding to Arbulag then on towards Bayanzurkh. Spectacular scenery,
riding through a deep gorge. Day
5 Cross many rivers - some without bridges ! After Bayanzurkh the route follows
the base of the big mountains, with occasional sudden steep climbs. Day
6 Slow long climb to reach Uliin Davaa pass (2410 metres) with fantastic views
of the Khoridol Saridag mountain range. Sometimes the track is rocky, though some
areas will be marshy if there has been much rain. Day
7 After passing Ulaan Uul village the road follows the Darkhad Depression,
again with great mountain views and some river crossings. Day
8 Ride up into the Khoridol Saridag mountains from Rinchenlhumbe to Jiglegiin
Davaa pass. Day
9 Ride down to the beautiful Khovsgol Lake, a freshwater inland sea. The path
may be muddy and difficult in parts, but conditions depend on the weather. Day
10 Ride along horse tracks, past the "Black Springs" to reach ger
camp at the foot of the mountains right beside the lake. Day
11 Drive to Moron. Overnight camping or guest house. Day
12 Fly Moron to UB. Afternoon at leisure. Transfer to hotel. Day
13 Transfer to airport for departure. Fly UB - Moscow - London We

SUPPORT TEAM We have
put together a strong and experienced support team consisting of Wildcat Guides
John and Brigitte, a chef, a cycle mechanic, and an interpreter. Our four wheel
drive support vehicles will travel with us at all times. The vehicles are large
enough to carry all participants, luggage, food, bikes, etc. This enables members
to ride and rest as they wish. EXTENSION
TRIPS Many
participants elect to extend their visit in Mongolia and visit Beijing and Moscow.
Wildcat Adventures can arrange accommodation, guides, and transfers for your extension
